How much are you willing to do for you job? How would you define success? How much time have you spent with you family during the last .. let’s say.. month? A few hours having fun, maybe a dinner on the run? When did you last take a good night sleep and did not have to wake when the alarm rang?

Well, I see that everybody believed Miranda Priestly to be a devil, the Runway devil. And Andrea Sachs is always the victim. I do not really see all the reasons for this division.

In the novel of Lauren Wisberger the recent Brown graduate, Andrea Sachs, is looking desperately for a job. The smart girl who spent years making literary analyzes in college finds herself in the extraterrestrial situations: she is forbidden to go to the toilet her colleague is not there to take the calls, one of her most important daily tortures is to bring hot coffee to her boss whom she alw ays has to please and to solve the problems even before they arise.

The devilish Miranda Priestly is horribly portrayed: the everlasting successful bitch which is never happy and never satisfied. Everybody admires her for the success and the fame she has, but nobody wants to be around her to stand all her moods.

After seeing the movie you realize that the devil is not that black. The book made you hate Miranda while the movie puts her in a different light. Would you like to see one of your subordinates while you argue with your boyfriend or your husband? Would you like to be treated as a piece of nothing by the one you love most? Even if when you are deadly tired, do you still think of your children? Do you appreciate the well done job and like to have around people whom you can trust?

Well, that’s Miranda Priestly, the devil who wears Prada!

Going back to the novel and reading it again, the horrible manager still does not look like a priest, but she is not the wicked per! son we s aw her at first. And Andy may have ‘the job one million girls would kill for’ and she is still admired and appreciated. The sad side of the story is that she is not shown that. And that is sad.

Everybody wants to be appreciated, Andy who runs from her own birthday party to run errands for Miranda, Miranda who blackmails in order to remain the manager. The book simply portrays us. Nothing more and nothing less.
