Personal development is about enriching and adding value to your life. The younger you start, the better but it is never too late to work on improving your life. It is important when you start you remember commitment, consistence and persistence. If you are not committed, what you read and what you hear are just hollow words. Here are some tips to immerse yourself in to your self-development. Develop a Belief System What is your philosophy of life? If you believe that everyone is out to get you; everyone conspires to thwart your success; that no one will help you to success then you are right...at least in your mind. You have to believe that success can be yours or you will never succeed. You have to believe you are deserving of everything you want or you will never have it. This is a difficult thing to change but you can. You have to train yourself to believe in yourself. The next item can contribute to that change. Read Books and Listen to Others I've heard it attributed to Charlie "Tremendous" Jones and I want to pass this along to you. "You are the sum of the people you meet and the books your read." Your thoughts are shaped by these two things since your birth. If your life is not where you want it to be, you have been listening to the wrong people and reading the wrong books. Start a personal-development reading program. If you can afford it, purchase a book a week to read in the area of self-development or biographies of successful people. If you cannot afford to do this, go to the library! Books are free and you will have access to all the books you could ever read. As you read a book, enter your thoughts and ideas into a journal that you can go back and review from time to time. Seek out others that you can talk to about their success. Don't let the idea of this embarrass you. If you elevate the level of the advice you seek, you will elevate your level of success. Don't let your present circle of friends, family, acquaintances and advisor hold you back. The only person responsible for your success is yourself. Clearly Define What You Want In Life Honestly, have you really given this serious thought? This is not about what you want to achieve, it is about what you want to be. You play many roles in your life; son or daughter, brother or sister, father or mother, manager or subordinate, friend, neighbor, member, leader. Where do you see yourself in these roles? Are your core values aligned with what you really want in these roles? Define these roles for yourself and use your journal to keep them for review and reassessment. Set Goals for Yourself Someone once told me "A short pencil is better than a long memory." Your goals don't belong in your head they belong on a piece of paper. Use your journal. It is a good place to keep and track your goals. And tracking your goals is the key to achieving them. To write great, well thought out and defined goals, use the SMARTEST Goals method. This is another place where you need to immerse yourself in your personal development and take charge. Commitment, consistence and persistence are the only way you will achieve your goals. Be Patient As much as you would like, all these changes you want to make in your life will not happen overnight. They take time. If time did not make a difference, why do we have minutes, hours, days, months and years? Make incremental improvements. Make entries in your journal as you see changes. Some things you can change in a week, some things may take a year or more. Be realistic and be patient. If you see changes weekly, this will help to move everything along. Find a MasterMind Group This is one of the most underutilized yet most powerful tool available for your success. All of the other topics mentioned can be greatly enhanced and achieved more quickly using a MasterMind Group. The MasterMind principle is the catalyst used by all super-successful people. Great success cannot be achieved alone. Take Action The only way to create change is through action. All of the tips mentioned do not mean a thing unless there is physical action involved. You can write the greatest, most inspiring goals, have a great MasterMind Group or read all the greatest books ever written but without action you have a skeleton of success with no muscle. Only you can make it happen.
